Does the Mirror Lie? – Wicked Wednesday #7

Wicked Wednesday

Welcome to my seventh post for Rebel’s Notesβ€˜ Wicked Wednesday, Does the Mirror Lie? You don’t have to use the prompt but I wanted the inspiration, and I thought it would be a fun challenge. The prompt for this week was:

Self Image

Self-image is how you perceive yourself. It is a number of self-impressions that have built up over time: What are your hopes and dreams? What do you think and feel? What have you done throughout your life and what did you want to do? These self-images can be very positive, giving a person confidence in their thoughts and actions, or negative, making a person doubtful of their capabilities and ideas.
(Source: What is self-image?)

So how about your self-image? Positive or negative? Why? How? Do you have advice for others on how to improve their self-image? What do you like or dislike about yourself? Interpret this prompt as you want and share your (sexy) posts.

Does the Mirror Lie?

She looks in the mirror and doesn’t recognise the reflection,
Does the mirror lie?
The woman looking out at her
Has her eyes, her mouth, her crazy hair
But she looks so sad, her eyes are dull.

She pinches at the flesh on her hips,
Squeezes the rolls of her belly,
Cups the weight of her breasts.
Frowning. Not liking what she sees.

She looks in the mirror, and misses the reflection how it used to be,
Does the mirror lie?
The woman who used to look out at her
Strong legs, tight stomach, muscled arms.
Her eyes sparkled when she smiled.

She’d stroked over her hips,
Tighten her hands round her tiny waist,
Cup the weight of her breasts.
All the time smiling. Liking what she sees.

She looks in the mirror, trying to see past the reflection,
Does the mirror lie?
It doesn’t show the woman she is,
Quick thinking, quirky wit, dirty-minded.
Eyes that show each mood.

She hugs the guy who’s with her,
His hands squeeze her arse,
Sliding up her waist,
Pinching her nipples.
She sees herself reflected in his eyes.
And she is at peace.

  1. The mirror may not lie, but nor does it tell the whole truth. At best it gives a perception of reality, a perception that we choose to see and interpret, and that interpretation is only as full and accurate as we let it be. And no matter how accurate the reflection, it only shows a one-dimensional image of the surface, and even then it’s back-to-front.

    Lovely post.

  2. That was so lovely. You really caught that emotional place between self-image and what you see reflected in the mirror. I can definitely relate to that! I love how it came gently to a hopeful place too. It’s just a beautiful piece.
